Ben Carson Announces His Run for President
« on: May 04, 2015, 01:47:58 am »
"The Republican field of candidates continues to widen. Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson is expected to make a major announcement at an event tomorrow in his hometown of Detroit. But in an exclusive interview tonight, Dr. Carson tells our National Correspondent Jeff Barnd he is in the race for the White House in 2016.

“I’m willing to be part of the equation and therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy for President of the United States of America.” With that, Dr. Ben Carson is off and running. He rose from poverty in Detroit to the head of the pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

He’s now retired from medicine. “Many people have suggested to me that I should run for president, even though I’m not a politician,” Carson said."

He's a good man. Intelligent. Smart enough to pick good advisors.

Not sure if he's President material though.

My thoughts precisely. He's a good guy—I just don't think he's the right guy for the job right now, with so many other, more battle-tested candidates in the field. At this point he only splits the vote from other candidates, which is exactly what Jeb wants.

Agreed, EC. In fact I think dr Carson may be too decent and compassionate a man to be in the political arena, where more blood is shed in one day for the amusement of the roaring crowds than the good doctor is used to seeing in the operating room in a year...

He's intelligent, knowledgeable and a solid conservative ...as far as I can tell.

I don't know his position on some of the important matters but I'd like to hear what he has to say.

I love the guy. I really do.

I would trust this guy with my money and my life.

But, never again.

I am actually truly sorry. But I cannot try this experiment another time.
I am just one person, but it is not for me. I am in no mood to gamble again.

NEVER AGAIN! that is where I stand.

I think that Carson and Fiorina bring protected status to the melee. If those two are used properly, they can say things that an "old white man" could never say. They can raise points and shine the spotlight where Democrats would have to scurry like the cockroaches they are. Neither of these two have a chance, but they could possibly provide ammunition for the general election. It's just as likely that they'll damage the GOP field so bad, that the last person standing will be easy pickings for the Democrats.

Now Mike Huckabee... the first thing I would do with campaign finance reform is to make it impossible for chuckleheads like Huckabee to earn a substantial living running for president.

I follow him on twitter. He says most of the right things. When he doesn't, it's more him being a good person than anything else.
For example he's made a couple of comments (grossly distorted in the media, as always) about guns that don't sit well with 2nd Amendment but are perfectly understandable from the point of view of a guy who's frustrated at putting brains back together after they've been shot.

Totally agree and I do hope that they are smart enough (and well advised enough) to position themselves well, and that the three serious contenders do more expanding and embracing than mud slinging.

I would vote for him over several others who's names have been thrown around as potential candidates. Jeb Bush for example.

Nope.

Another self-absorbed, Santorum-like character who has the notion America just can't live without his leadership.

These vanity candidates look so foolish.

Carson's got issues with guns. I could never support him.

Not uncommon among presidential candidates. They must be supremely confident that they have the most to offer, or else why would they run?

According to the NYT, 5 Republicans are now running:

Cruz
Paul
Rubio
Carson
Fiorina

They list 8 more as probables:

Bush
Walker
Christie
Huckabee
Santorum
Perry
Graham
Jindal

Carson is my fourth choice after Paul, Walker and Perry.  We could do a lot worse.  Bush, Graham or Christie, for example.

Also, I am glad to see an accomplished non-politician running.  I wish more would.

I really believe Dr. Carson is aiming for the VP slot, if anything.

Meantime, he's on the clock for this fifteen minutes.  And his voice and POV will be heard by millions in the next week.

A respected black Conservative intellectual is just what's needed in the public square.  One who can tear Barack a new one.
