Huckabee Plans GOP Announcement Later This Spring

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Sunday he plans to state his intentions sometime later this spring about seeking the presidency.

"It's wide open," Huckabee told ABC's "This Week," about the growing pool of potential GOP candidates. But he did note that he didn't leave his Fox News show earlier this month because he was "tired of going to New York every week."

Huckabee said if he runs, he'll do things differently this time around than in 2008, including raising more money.

"A lot of people didn't take the campaign that seriously until we were winning states and winning primaries," said Huckabee. "I literally got by on a dime to the dollar of both John McCain and Mitt Romney…You have to have a lot of money to be able to push your own campaign and defend your record against all these crazy attacks that come against you."

But while Huckabee said a while back that if former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush ran for the White House, he might step aside, he said Sunday that he and Bush are good friends and he's "not making that decision right now."

Bush would be a formidable candidate, Huckabee admitted, but said if he decides to run, it won't be "because someone else did or did not. It's going to be because I think the country needs some common sense leadership that brings us back to fiscal sanity."
