Reince Priebus: GOP's 2016 Convention to Be Held in July
Wednesday, January 14, 2015 08:12 PM

By: Todd Beamon

The Republican National Committee said Wednesday that its 2016 national convention will be held that July in Cleveland, Ohio.

The event will be held July 18-21 at the Quicken Loans Arena, chairman Reince Priebus said. The RNC announced Cleveland as the convention city over the summer.

"A convention in July is a historic success for our party and future nominee," Priebus said.

"The convention will be held significantly earlier than previous election cycles, allowing access to crucial general election funds earlier than ever before to give our nominee a strong advantage heading into Election Day.

The move was part of Preibus' pledge to have the convention sooner, giving the eventual nominee earlier access to general election funds and other support.

A number of Republicans are considering whether to seek the nomination.

The RNC is also forming a committee to oversee convention logistics. Members to the Committee on Arrangements are appointed by Priebus.

"We're excited to continue working with our partners in Cleveland and we look forward to showcasing everything the city has to offer to our delegates and the world in 2016," the chairman said.

I agree -- a stupid move.

But what can be expected from them, anyway?
