On Monday's broadcast of CNN's "New Day" during the show's "Inside Politics" segment, National Journal's Ron Fournier reacted to a new CNN/ORC poll which showed Scott Brown and incumbent Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) in a 48-48 percent tie in that state's U.S. Senate midterm race.
According to Fournier, Brown, formerly a Republican senator for neighboring Massachusetts, is tied with Shaheen because President Barack Obama has been a weighing Democratic candidates down electorally.
"Sen. Shaheen is at 53-54 percent in approval rating," Fournier said. "She is being dragged down by President Obama. Brown is actually leading among young voters in New Hampshire, which surprises me because that's Obama's coalition. And Shaheen has experience at the Harvard Institute of Politics, which has a long tradition of inspiring young voters."
"She is -- what's happening there is a classic example of what we're seeing across the country and that is President Obama being an anvil to Democrats," he added.
