THANKS, CHRISTIAN WHITE MEN!
I’m Andrew Klavan and this is the Revolting Truth.
You know, so many things have gone wrong in our country recently — like the Obama administration and… the second Obama administration… that we sometimes forget the freedom, equal treatment and toleration most Americans have enjoyed from the very founding of this country until the Obama administration.
So today we at the Revolting Truth would like to pause a moment and express our heartfelt gratitude to the source of these blessings. Thank you, Christian white men!
You see, as everyone knows except knuckleheads and leftists — but I repeat myself — history doesn’t happen all at once. The ancient Egyptians had all the raw materials they needed to make an electric light bulb or write the U.S. Constitution but it took millennia for mankind to come up with those ideas. And so often, when good ideas have been discovered, it was Christian white men who led the way.
Take the abolition of slavery for instance. Owning people was once a universal practice among humans of every color and creed. It was Christian white men who first banned the evil permanently throughout their domain and, in America, fought and died in their hundreds of thousands to bring the institution to an end. Thanks, Christian white men!
Or take equal rights for women. From the middle ages on, women received better treatment in Christendom than anywhere else. Christianity forbid polygamy and concubinage, which devalue women wherever they exist, and Christian marriage laws now thought restrictive were designed in their time to protect the rights of wives. Today, if you’re looking for anything resembling gender equality in law, to whose countries do you turn? That’s right! Thanks, Christian white men.
And what about toleration for difference? Whether it was their separation of church and state, their retreat from empire or their expansion of civil rights at home, Christian white men may be the only group of people on the face of the planet who ever surrendered their monopoly on power largely because they deemed it just to do so. And when we look back in time and accuse Christian white men of treating others unfairly, we’re holding them to standards they propagated and which we participate in because they thought it right to include us.
So once more, thanks, Christian white men for all the blessings you’ve bestowed on the rest of us. Normally, I’d also say thanks to God but… I don’t want to offend anybody.
