by Tony Lee 11 Feb 2014, 10:48 AM PDT

Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Rand Paul (R-KY) lead an online Tea Party presidential poll while Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie comes in dead last.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is second to last with former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, the failed 2012 GOP presidential candidate who is now associated with the conservative-bashing  "No Labels" group that is a refuge for those in the bipartisan permanent political class. The Washington Examiner reported that grassroots conservatives also strongly support Dr. Ben Carson, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

Cruz has the support of 84% of those polled online. Paul got the support of 80%. Christie got the support of 15% while Bush and Huntsman received 29% each.

It should be noted that the online poll of 62,000 activists for TheTeaParty.net and the conservative group Contract from America is not scientific, but it nonetheless gives a good snapshot of the sentiment of Tea Party activists

“There’s a resounding message in these poll results for the Washington establishment. This is not a survey of casual Republicans or sometimes voters. These are activists who pound the pavement, make the phone calls, and cast their votes in every election every year,” Todd Cefaratti, founder of TheTeaParty.net, said. “They have a message for the candidates of status quo Washington: We are coming for you. We will beat you. And we will send you packing from the halls of power,” he added.

Here are the results:

    1. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz-84 percent.

    2. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul-80 percent.

    3. Dr. Ben Carson-77 percent.

    4. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker-70 percent.

    5. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin-64 percent.

    [...]

    19. New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte-30 percent.

    20. Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.-29 percent.

    21. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush-29 percent.

    22. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie-15 percent.

Cruz has led in a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll among Republican GOP presidential primary voters that consider themselves Tea Partiers. Among all Republicans in a recent national poll, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin still had the highest favorability rating even though she was not included in the list of potential 2016 candidates on the survey, which means that her endorsement, if she does not run, could potentially tip the 2016 nomination contest that is expected to be wide open without a clear frontrunner.

Tell me again how we are supposed to support the GOPe.  How about this - the GOPe support the candidates the MAJORITY prefer for a change.

Self selecting polls are totally not meaningful. But it is entertaining. It is Reality Politics entertaining.

Not really good news for Gov. Walker.  He needs to win re-election in a purple state first.  Give him some time to tell you about his views on immigration, and legitimate rape.  He wont be a tea party favorite long.

The RNC sent me an online presidential straw poll where I was asked to select my top three choices. I wonder how that's going for them.
This is supposed to be the link, but it isn't opening for me today: http://www.gop.com/act/presidential-straw-poll
