Vermont passes universal healthcare

"All but ignored in the multitude of media coverage about the ACA and its problems, Vermont has become the first state in the union to pass a single-payer universal health care law for its residents. It has a snappy slogan: Everybody in, nobody out.

The system will be fully operational by 2017, funded by Medicare, Medicaid, federal money for the ACA given to Vermont, and a slight increase in taxes. Everyone will be able to go to any doctor or hospital in the state free of charge. No plans to figure out, no insurance forms to sweat over, no gotchas."

And if you really think it will work out well, you're an idiot.

yeah, right; Vermont can exempt itself from the laws of economics by mere legislative fiat.  Oh, and with a heapin' helping of OPM - other peoples' money:  "funded by Medicare, Medicaid, federal money for the ACA given to Vermont" oh, and a dollop, a smidgeon, a mere wafer thin mint, of money from Vermonters themselves: "and a slight increase in taxes."  What a bunch of hooey.

You ought to be honest - mind you, I don't hold my breath waiting for honesty from liberals - and admit that the real fact of the matter is that the other 49 states - the taxpayers in the other 49 states - have been snookered into buying Vermont a single-payer system.

If the people of Vermont weren't such raving hypocrites, they'd have stood on their own collective two feet and funded this themselves, on their own backs, not on the backs of the taxpayers in the other 49 states.  Then again, without hypocrisy a liberal would be, well, he wouldn't be a liberal; he might still be a stupid idiot, but he wouldn't be a liberal.

I've posted on other threads in this forum about Vermont's coming move to single-payer.

Guess we're going to find out in another three years how well the concept of single-payer will work or not work in the American environment.

Although as others have mentioned, Vermont -- for all it's liberalism -- is actually a state "un-alike" most of the others. For one, it's the "whitest" state in America, and the population isn't large.

Odd as it may seem, single-payer might actually work (or at least offer the appearances of "working") 'way up there. At least for a while...

As Oceander already pointed out, Vermont's "single-payer" is still dependent on federal money helping to fund it.  It's a bit like the US starting single-payer, and then using a tax on UN members (or NATO may be more applicable) to help support it.

Here in Oregon, the idiots on the left are actually celebrating the huge number of new Medicaid/OHP members because the federal government is subsidizing it for 3 years.  This is in a state with literally ZERO new members signed up via the healthcare exchange.  When I ask people who funds all of these new freeloaders after the 3 years, I receive a blank look, and twice have received the response "but for 3 years, the federal government funds it"!

Idiots.

So when do the armed guards at the State Line start their patrols??  I would think that Vermont needs to close their borders right away to prevent an influx of new "residents" flocking to the New Mecca of New England.  Will they shoot to kill in order to reduce gunshot trauma treatments among vagrants??

When you say "everyone", that's a big porch full of people before you can holler "FREE SOUP!!". and the problem is that eventually you run out of other people's money.  But considering that this is Vermont and has sent a Socialist to the US Senate for years, who really gives a shiite??
