Kaine: Senate will pass troop funding bill

There’s at least one point of agreement in the acrimonious debate over keeping the federal government open: Paying the troops.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said Sunday that his chamber will likely pass a measure written by House Republicans that will keep paychecks going to the military if the federal government shuts down.

“In all likelihood, we will,” Kaine said on "Fox News Sunday." “We think it’s insufficient – it doesn’t cover [the Department of Veterans Affairs] and other important workers – but it is necessary and I don’t suspect that it’ll be too controversial.”

The troop funding bill passed the House with no opposition early Sunday morning.
