The Obama Borg claim a new victim
April 30, 2013 by Scott Johnson

Victor Davis Hanson borrows the concept of the Borg from Star Trek (“the fictional alien race that appears as recurring antagonists in various incarnations”) to capture the Obama administration’s groupthink reformulating the war on terror. The Obama Borg, as Hanson dubs it, dissociate Islam from terrorism. The denial has reached absurd proportions with results that would be laughable if they weren’t so serious and pathetic.

We are all familiar with the cases of Obama Borg members Janet Napolitano, John Brennan, James Clapper, Eric Holder, George Casey, and Charles Bolden. Hanson mentions all but Holder, whose case receives attention in Daniel Pipes’s essay “Denying Islam’s role in terrorism: Explaining the denial.” Pipes demonstrates that the phenomenon of denial predates Obama, but it has risen to the status of official doctrine in the Obama administration.

The Obama Borg have now claimed another victim in the person of Lt. Col. Matthew Dooley. Colonel Dooley is an officer decorated for valor in Iraq and the subject of glowing evaluations.Colonel Dooley has been passed over for a combat battalion command, likely heralding the end of his promising Army career. What is his offense?

Colonel Dooley’s offense was to have taught the dangers of radical Islam in a course at the Joint Forces Staff College. As told by Rowan Scarborough, the case of Colonel Dooley presents as an appalling study in the wages of the Obama Borg.

Wesley Pruden takes up the case of Colonel Dooley in “How to intimidate a paperclip general.” Pruden directs his ire to “the paperclip generals,” but this fish is rotting from the head.
